Eagle Ford Shale is located south of San Antonio, Texas, right along the United States / Mexico border. Located along the Energy Corridor, a land mass which extends 50 miles wide by 400 miles in length to East Texas. The play measures 250 feet thick from a depth of 4,000 feet to 12,000 feet. Eagle Ford Shale now represents the biggest oil play in the United States today on account of new technology that has been developed called hydraulic fracturing. Oil production in the Eagle Ford Shale region of Texas has increased 600 percent from 2010 to 2011. Oil production for 2011 represented over 28 million barrels, supported by 47,000 full-time jobs. The University of Texas San Antonio has projected that by the year 2021 the number of full-time jobs will increase by 148 percent to over 116,000.
